How do I adjust the tilt angle of my glasses?

The tilt angle means how much the lenses lean towards your face at their lower edge. It affects which part of the lens you look through – especially in progressive glasses, where the distance, intermediate and reading areas are at different heights on the lens. If your glasses don't seem to work after you have given yourself time to get used to them, try this adjustment before re-centring. A small adjustment often fixes the problem without new glasses.

When to adjust

  • Distance vision is blurry, but reading works well → the lens probably sits too high. Adjust the tilt angle or lower the frames on your nose (move the nose pads further apart).
  • Reading is difficult, or you only find the reading area when you lift your chin a lot → the lens sits too low. Adjust the tilt angle or raise the frames on your nose (move the nose pads closer together).
  • Dizziness, or the image "sways" → check that both lenses are at the same height and tilted by the same amount. Also check that the pupillary distance (PD) given in your order is correct (how to measure your PD).

How to adjust

  1. Take the glasses in your hand and look at them from the side. The tilt changes when you bend the temple (the arm of the glasses) slightly up or down at the hinge.
  2. Acetate frames: warm the hinge area in warm (not boiling) water for about 30 seconds. Metal frames: don't warm them.
  3. Bend the temple at the hinge, one small movement at a time. Bending the temple downwards increases the tilt (the lower edge of the lens comes closer to your cheeks), bending it upwards reduces the tilt.
  4. Do the same for both temples, by the same amount, so that the lenses stay at the same level.
  5. Put the glasses on and wear them normally for 1–2 days before the next adjustment.

There are separate instructions and a video for adjusting the temples and nose pads.

If adjusting doesn't help

Contact us at info@banaanieyewear.fi – we can re-centre the lenses free of charge, based on a selfie taken from straight in front. Tell us your order number, which adjustments you tried and what the problem is. More detailed instructions: My lenses don't seem to work. What should I do?

We always take responsibility for the adjustments: if the frames break while you are adjusting them, we'll make you new ones free of charge.
