What is bridge width and how is it measured?

Bridge width (or simply the bridge) is the distance between the two lenses at the nose. It's one of the three basic measurements of a frame and is given in millimetres.

How it is measured

  • Measure the distance between the inner edges of the lenses at the narrowest point, at the nose, in millimetres.
  • You can often find the same number already printed on the inside of the temple (the arm) of your current glasses: in the series of three numbers, the middle number is the bridge width. For example, in the marking "52-18-145" the bridge width is 18 mm.

A typical bridge is about 14–24 mm: a narrower one suits a narrow nose, a wider one a wider nose.

On every frame's product page, you'll find this measurement under Bridge width. The surest way to find the right fit is to compare it with the same measurement on your current glasses that fit well.
