Banaani glasses are well suited to normal everyday use. Our lenses are made of standard eyeglass plastic, the same material used in practically all glasses made today. When it comes to heat and cold, they behave exactly like glasses bought from an optician.
Hot steam in the kitchen
The lens plastic itself doesn't react to steam from pots or the oven. Sudden intense heat (e.g. your face directly above an opened oven door) can, however, weaken the coatings over time.
Tips:
- Open the oven and hot lids slightly from the side, not straight towards your face.
- Wipe fogged-up lenses with a soft microfibre cloth, not your shirt or kitchen paper.
- If you work a lot with hot steam, a second pair just for work is a good option.
Sauna, hot car and other intense heat
Don't take your glasses into the sauna. The same goes for leaving your glasses on the car dashboard in summer.
Cold and fogging
Cold doesn't damage the lenses or frames in normal use. Do avoid sudden temperature changes, though, such as holding ice-cold glasses directly under hot water. When you come indoors, the lenses fog up – let the fog evaporate or wipe the lenses with a soft microfibre cloth. In freezing weather, plastic frames are a bit stiffer than when warm, so don't bend the temples while they're cold.
In short
Normal everyday life is no problem for your glasses. Avoid sudden intense heat (oven steam straight in your face, sauna, hot car) and always clean the lenses with a soft microfibre cloth.
